Soapbox Art wants to introduce you to a new interviewing/photo series called Young, Fresh and Fabulous! YFF is a segment that I created to shed light on amazing talent that you should know.  I recently interviewed CEO of Chemical X Kiki Dunn, also known as Kiki the Dunn.  Kiki is a Houston based fashion t-shirt designer that has a unique and dope style.  Chemical X is definitely not a brand you want to sleep on.  Check out my interview below with Kiki.   All photo work was shot by me, Angie Skyes, for the Chemical X t-shirt line (above photos).
*ANGIE SKYES FOR SOAPBOX ART INTERVIEWS CHEMICAL X*
Angie Skyes:  Where did the name Chemical X originate from?
Kiki Dunn:  I got the idea from The Power Puff Girls.  Chemical X was what gave the girls super powers therefore allowing them to become extraordinary.  With my brand, Chemical X is what makes you different and gives you something extra.
AS:  Give us a little insight on the Chemical X brand and style. What and Who are some of your influences?
KD:  I would say Im my biggest influence.  I design based on what I want to wear.  I am also influenced by the sneakerhead community and also by brands like The Hundreds, 10deep & Hellz Bellz.
AS:  What made you decide to create t-shirts instead of other potential products?
KD:  I love t-shirts so naturally I decided to push those first.
AS:  Do you see see yourself expanding your brand outside of shirts? If so, then what products would you add to the line?
KD:  I want to def add caps to the line.  Also I’ll be releasing a kids line very soon so look out for that!
AS:  I really love the “No Good Lion Cheetah” shirt (which can be found/purchased on the chemical x website)! What inspired this particular design?
KD:  I loooveee cheetah/leopard print.  I have since before it became so popular. So I knew I had to make something with that print.  I was thinking cheetah sounds like cheater and then added the rest and voila!
AS:  What sets your shirts apart from other t-shirt designers?
KD:  Because the theme is about being different, and your own person, the shirts are totally different from each other.  This way different people can rock them & still be true to themselves and their own style.
AS:  What are your ultimate goals for Chemical X?
KD:  I would love for Chemical X to expand outward from just a clothing line.  Perhaps a Chemical X community center, scholarship, etc.  Some kind of movement beneficial to the community. I love to give back.
AS:  Do you have any upcoming events for Chemical X that you would like everyone to have a heads up about?
KD:  March 6th, club 2610 E.V.O.L.V.E. youth program and Purple Hollywood clothing present the “I Am” event.  Chemical X will be in the building! Along with many other great designers and artists.
AS:  Tell potential buyers where they can purchase Chemical X products.
KD:  Shop Chemical X at www.chemicalx.bigcartel.com .  Also to keep up with me and Chemical X releases, events, etc. check out www.thexlab.tumblr.com .
AS:  Lastly, if you could describe Chemical X in one word, what would it be??
KD: Tight!
